He started his career at the Division III level (SUNY Albany in New York), coaching football and baseball. He then moved west working at Division I University of Arizona, Sonoma State University (California NCAA Division II) then Division 1AA (now FCS) Northern Arizona University. He moved cross country to Shippensburg University (Division II) in Pennsylvania, followed by Bucknell University (his alma mater and FCS level). Marty finished his career after serving as the Head Coach at Mercyhurst University for 20 years. These coaching experiences gave him a thorough knowledge of recruiting. He recruited to all levels and different types of colleges. He recruited with scholarships and need based grant in aids. He had the opportunity to recruit a diverse group of student athletes and help them achieve their goals (Academic All American, All Academic, All Conference, All American). Among his many honors none were better than the Coaching Service Award received after his tenure at Mercyhurst.
All his college athletic experiences provide him a wealth of knowledge and wisdom. And he learned more from his family as they too went through the college recruiting process.
His wife is a 35 year school teacher with invaluable lessons in education. Together Marty and his wife experienced 4 children going through athletic recruiting and college decision process. Like Marty’s career their children were recruited from Division I to Division III. The sports included baseball, basketball, soccer and swimming. Marty continued to learn through his children’s experiences and carried that knowledge into his own recruiting.
Through his years of coaching and recruiting experience, Marty has a great deal of knowledge, wisdom and lessons learned about the athletic recruiting and college decision process. He hopes to share with you his experiences and knowledge so you can make the best college decision as you go through the athletic recruiting process.
